The Reason Rumah SukkhaCitta Foundation Exists

The story that started it all.

SukkhaCitta’s story is that of women in rural Indonesia.

Since 2016, we’ve been on a mission of providing young mothers in Indonesia’s villages with access to education and a fair market. Today, our social enterprise alone has impacted over 1,482 lives - and increased incomes of our artisans and farmers by on average 60%.

Yet spending so much time in the villages, I also had to learn an uneasy fact: For women in rural Indonesia, climate change is already painfully real.

Harvests fail more often than they used to. There either is too much rain or too little. And even during the early morning hours, temperatures are already so high it’s hard to work outside. Leaving women even more vulnerable than before - completely unprepared for an uncertain future.

Rumah SukkhaCitta Foundation was created to address this.

Investing in Women

Together with our partners, we find innovative, simple solutions that work. From traditional farming systems that naturally heal the soil and mitigate climate change – to empowering women entrepreneurs in our award-winning craft schools – so they can earn proud livelihoods rooted in environmental stewardship and cultural regeneration.

Today, much of the public debate is dominated by complex technology, developed in the global North. Yet it is the education and empowerment of women, the reduction of waste and regeneration of natural ecosystems that consistently  rank in the top five solutions to climate change.
