Sustaining Culture
Empowering Women
Through Access to Education
Leveraging skills and traditions that are already there, we bridge the broken lineage of craft through education to create lasting impact for women in last mile communities.
The Problem
Craft is the second largest employing sector for women in developing countries. Without access, most are trapped in poverty.
Unable to earn a fair wage for their work. As part of the informal sector, no legal protection exists to protect them.
As a result, young women are forced to abandon their craft in search for better livelihoods.
Posing a risk to the continuation of indigenous cultures all over the Archipelago as the lineage of craft is broken.
While creating a missed opportunity for building inclusive livelihoods for the most vulnerable women in rural communities.
Currently, we work in 11 villages and have established a network of 5 craft schools.
Spanning from Java, Bali, to East Nusa Tenggara, this is just the beginning. With our proven model of cultural and environmental regeneration, we are continuously seeking partners to scale our impact.
Our Curriculum
Our vocational educational curriculum focuses on 3 pillars. Each module is perfected through our decade of work to build climate resilience for women in last mile communities.
Craft Innovation
Combining tradition with innovation, we safeguard heritage while fusing design thinking to ensure their skills are relevant to the rising global demand using pioneering biomaterials from their surroundings.
Leadership & Entrepreneurship
Mothers who go through our program are taught financial literacy and management skills. Bringing back pride and financial autonomy as they lift their families from poverty.
Environmental Stewardship
The economic opportunities we bring to the villages must not come at the expense of the environment. That’s why we focus so much on natural dye and regenerative organic farming trainings.
“Because of the scholarship in Rumah SukkhaCitta, I can fulfill the promise I made to my grandmother to continue my family’s tradition.”
-Ibu Linna, East Java
By 2030, we want to reach 10,000 women across the Archipelago to be guardians of their indigenous culture.
