Circular Livelihoods

Transforming Waste into Opportunity

Burning of textile and agricultural waste is a big issue in rural Indonesia - causing severe pollution, respiratory problems and contributing to climate change. Together with you, we keep developing new ways to transform this waste into livelihoods for women in our villages.

The Problem

In Indonesia, agricultural waste is usually burned rather than composted, causing respiratory issues and contributing to climate change.

At the same time, textile waste is becoming an ever bigger issue. According to the Ellen McArthur Foundation, every second 1 garbage truck full of clothes is dumped somewhere. Less than 1% is recycled.

Yet there is significant opportunity in this waste - both to reduce environmental impacts and create new livelihoods for women in rural Indonesia.

The Solution

Together with artisan communities in Bali and Central Java, we’re developing ways to turn waste into valuable products. From upcycling offcuts into new garments to processing textile and agricultural waste into recycled yarns.

Yarns that become the basis for truly circular products, handcrafted by our artisan communities across Indonesia.

To date, we have prevented over 6 tons of waste and 122 tons of CO2e through our upcycling programs.

Towards a Circular Future

Help us turn waste into new economic opportunities for local farmers, waste collectors and weavers – increasing incomes by an expected 100%.

Your donations will fund the purchase of additional machinery to process waste into useable materials, trainings for the local communities, as well as additional research into how especially agricultural waste such as banana stem can be turned into a new kind of sylk for the local craft industry.

Let’s Turn Waste into Livelihoods

So far, our upcycling programs have given incomes to 20 women and saved +122tons of CO2e from entering the atmosphere. But with your help, we can do so much more.
