Provide Scholarships and Education for Women

Craft is one of the biggest sources of income for mothers in rural Indonesia. Together with you, we want to train more young women in their traditional crafts, so they can earn their own, independent income and keep their local culture alive.

The Problem

For mothers working from home, craft can be a powerful way to earn an independent income and take care of her family. Yet Indonesia’s many craft forms are slowly disappearing.

Traditionally, craft skills are passed on from mother to daughter. But as it’s becoming harder and harder to make a living from their textile traditions, many parents choose not to pass on their craft.

The Solution

We provide full scholarships to young women who want to re-learn their traditional craft. Becoming apprentices of more experienced craftswomen in our award-winning craft schools (Rumah SukkhaCitta), they learn the technique along with important business skills and safe environmental practices.

The scholarship covers one full year of expenses so our women can dedicate themselves to learning.
