Our foundation’s Work

why we Empower Women

We believe that women empowerment and environmental protection go hand in hand. Here is why:

  • Women are known to take better care of their land and natural resources - from planting more diverse crops to leading initiatives to stop erosion

  • Empowered women have less children and have them later in life, providing better healthcare, nutrition and education

  • Women think more long-term - which makes them better stewards of our precious resources, preserving them for future generations

 How o we Empower them

Yayasan Rumah SukkhaCitta provides training and vocational education to women in rural Indonesia so they can start their own businesses and earn their livelihoods in ways that actually heal the planet.

BUILDING SCHOOLS > EDUCATING WOMEN > START THEIR OWN BUSINESS
> HEAL THE PLANET

Through education and fair market access, we transform lives
- one woman at the time.

Area of Focus

Agriculture and craft are the biggest employing sectors for women in rural Indonesia. Yet they are also the most polluting and exploitative. We are here to change that:

Craft

  • Without fair access to the market, over 2 Mio craftswomen in Indonesia struggle to feed their children - while polluting their homes with toxic dyes and chemicals.

  • We introduce new designs, business skills, quality control and environmentally friendly practices - so the women can earn a living wage while protecting the planet.

Regenerative Agriculture

  • We introduce simple farming practices that go beyond organic - regenerating the soil so it can hold more water and absorb carbon from the atmosphere.

  • Through organic fertilizer, no tilling and intercropping, we boost small-holder farmers’ income and make them more resilient against climate change.

Transforming Agricultural Waste

  • Together with our farmers, we are looking for ways to turn waste into innovative materials - like sylk made of banana stem.

  • Creating new opportunities for smallholder farmers while reducing pollution from burning agricultural waste.
