“My husband and I lost our jobs in March 2020. I occasionally got work from a small factory - making simple dresses at a few cents a piece. I worked from morning to evening and barely dared to go to the bathroom. Because if I did not meet my quota, I would not get work the next day.

The pandemic left women in Indonesia’s villages more vulnerable

In addition to homeschooling their kids, many women had to step up and become the family’s primary breadwinner.

Yet with limited education, their options are few – forcing them to take on whatever work they could find, at wages that are barely enough to feed their children.

A 2 Year Program – from Java to East Nusa Tenggara

With your help, we will provide free trainings to 120 women in 5 different villages – from Central and East Java to Bali and East Nusa Tenggara:

  • Introduce basic and advanced textile craft skills

  • Environmentally sound practices like natural dyeing and upcycling

  • Business skills like costing and pricing

Together with you, we make sure these women know their rights, earn a better livelihood and become more resilient in the face of future challenges.

Unlocking the Power of Craft

Indonesia’s many traditional craft forms are a powerful way for women to earn their own, independent income - while working from home.

Provided with the right knowledge and guaranteed access to market, our trainings will give these women a new sense of pride and independence.

By once again becoming the guardians of Indonesia’s culture, the women earn higher incomes and become more resilient against future challenges.

“Growing up, I have always wanted to be a batik artisan, just like my mom and my grandmother before me. I have always felt a lot of pride for our family’s tradition.

Through Rumah SukkhaCitta’s trainings, I can support my family – and fulfill the promise I made to my grandmother.”
